September 28th to October 2nd, 9am to 3pm, October Holiday Art Academy Week One for 8 to 12 year olds in Studio Two – In the September/October holidays we are running two awesome 5-day programmes. Young artists (8-12 yrs) will learn new skills, make new friends, try new materials, and create cool art to take home and share with their whānau. Week #1 Activities include: Painting Cities, Drawing Still Life, Sculpting, Papier Mache Treasure Boxes, and Sewing Fabric Mosaics. It’s free to come along, BYO materials (if you forget your materials we will have a small selection of bric-a-brac drawing supplies you can use during the session if needed). These are not ‘taught’ sessions and you can draw whatever you like – although drawings done in response to Inktober drawing prompts can be added to ‘The Arts Village Inktober 2020 Show” exhibition walls at the end of each session. Thursday October 1st – Thursday October 31st, The Inktober Show – Inktober 2020 is a pop-up show taking on the global arts challenge, Inktober. This challenge started in 2009 by Jake Parker as a challenge to improve inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. The challenge happens annually with artists all around the world each creating 31 drawings over 31 days from a list of official prompts. Saturday/Sunday, 3rd/4th October, Pastel Workshop with Maxine Thompson, 9am-4pm, Learn colours and techniques for working with pastels from acclaimed local artist Maxine Thompson and with her guidance create a gorgeous animal portrait in pastels.
