News release: ARTISTS WANTED FOR SUMMER ARTS RESIDENCY IN ROTORUA

ROTORUA – The Arts Village is currently looking for artists for the Open Studios Project: Share & Innovate. The Summer residency is a special project running from 20th December to 28th January and will give three artists a space to create artwork and work with the Rotorua community.

The six-week residency is open to anyone able to work in New Zealand and will see three artists practicing their art form in The Arts Village studios over six weeks. Chosen artists will each receive exclusive-use of studio space during the residency, Internet access, a $500 grant for materials, and a $2000 stipend to support their living costs.

Mary-Beth Acres, The Arts Village Manager, says “The focus of the residency this year is for artists is “Share & Innovate”. Sharing through working with other artists and spending time with locals/visitors coming through and innovating by working on their own arts practice and pushing their boundaries. This is the first year we have set a theme and we are really excited to see how applicants meet this challenge!”

Interested artists can apply by submitting a proposal that meets one or more aims of audience engagement, youth engagement, and collaboration and sharing. Applications close on Saturday 12th November  at 2pm with information and application forms available online at www.artsvillage.org.nz/osp or directly from The Arts Village.

The Open Studios Project has been running since 2011 and has seen 28 local and international artists participate. In this time it has received funding through the Rotorua District Council, The Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, Creative Communities Rotorua, The Southern Trust and the Rotorua Arts Village Trust.
